Training Log for Sage Schutte

10/23/06 Brought her in and tacked up and she stood very well. Skipped lunging and started out with some walk work after having a discussion concerning standing still for mounting. Did some trot work, focusing on asking her to give through her body. Right is more difficult for her, but she tried. Did some sidepassing, left went better, but right was possible. Ended with some walk leg yield, some of which was quite good.

unknown date, late entry. I brought her in and tacked her up and she was very relaxed. I lunged her and she was excellent. When I got on, she wanted to wiggle around a little bit rather than stand still and we had a short discussion about that. We did a lot of walk halts, helping her balance throught the transition and stay soft. Then we had some trot work. She is reasonably relaxed, but pretty stiff, which we can work with over time. We worked in the arena as Jada was driving Joe around and she didn't bat an eye. Very good girl.

9/6/06 Sage was very easy to catch in the pasture and came in to the barn after a short graze. She stood in the cross ties like an angel, other than wanting to be at the front end of them for the most part. I lunged her and she was excellent. Attentive and active. After lunging I put her in the cross ties in the wash stall and hosed her which she was relaxed for and enjoyed. She is starting to really look pregnant, just this week. If we are going to start ridingn her we should do it now and ease into it so that we aren't tempted to (re)start her riding when she is pretty far along and it would be hard on her back.

8/30/06 I brought her in and played with a little bit in a stall. Tied her to a post and fussed with her. Then I lunged her and she was excellent. Did some leading things and worked on polite transitions on which she did well. Then I put her in the wash stall and rinsed her without being tied and she stood beautifully with her head in the corner by the controls. Relaxed. Then I put her in the cross ties in the wash stall and rinsed her again and she was very slightly uneasy, but mostly calm. Excellent. Grazed her for 15 minutes and called it a day.
