Training Log for Casey Hand

10/18/05 Conditioning ride in the soybean fields. He was really happy to go. He did great. We did about 2.5 miles and it was no problem at all to trot and canter the whole way. It was a warm day, so I hosed him at the end. Cookies and out. Good boy.

10/17/05 Jump school. Nice walk, trot and canter warm up and then a short jump school. He was foot perfect, so instead of repeating more jumps, we went on a nice hack. Very good.

10/12/05 Jump school. After a walk and trot warm up, we cantered over the small log, which he unhesitatingly overjumped--like it was much bigger than it was. We did it a few more times and it got better. Then we did the skinny small coop, which his did fine going toward the barn, but glanced off on the way away from it. Turkey! He jumped it fine the second time. He jumped the larger coop perfectly. Solution: only jump big jumps, Judy. Ha ha ha!

10/11/05 Hack in the newly harvested bean field. We went a couple of miles and had a grand time of it. His winter coat is coming in and the sun was warm, so we had a nice cool out walk the last half mile.

10/10/05 Hack in the newly harvested bean field. Best footing on earth. We went two miles doing a lot of transitions. He worked pretty hard, but the cool weather made him quite happy to go!

10/6/05 Road hack with some emphasis on staying soft in transitions. It was a very brisk day and he was happy to go.

10/4 Conditioning ride to reacquaint myself with the fabulous Casey. We went 2 miles and he was just stellar. Started out with walk work and then on to trot and some nice canter work. If he has a fault it is that he can be a little stiff in his neck. Really nice horse.
