12/17/10 Pony wall up

North wall up

South wall and north wall

The whole fabric for the indoor is rolled tightly in the sausage...

...with my name on it! Merry Christmas to me!
12/16/10 Pony wall going up...

Ben and Kelwin taking a very unusual break while working on the southwest pony wall.

Southeast pony wall going up.
12/15 More poles added to polehenge!

North polehenge with smaller poles added between the big ones. The door is not framed in so that it will be easier to bring in the trusses.

South polehenge with the smaller poles placed between the larger ones. Also the vertical framing for the south door.
12/14/10 Polehenge (distant cousin to Stonehenge) is built.

Ready-mix concrete truck doing its thing at about 20 degrees. (Edited to correct my original comment of "cement truck" to the current.) Huzzah to Jeff Stone for teaching me that "cement is to concrete, as flour is to fruitcake". I feel like I can drink in constuction guy bars now and fit right in. Rockin'.

Polehenge looking southwest.

Polehenge looking northwest.
12/13/10 The semi arrives!

Jay goes out to greet the semi

Pony wall lumber on the back, trusses in the middle and fabric in the front

Unloading...

Oooh, trusses

Hard to see, but the strings that mark one of the corners of the building are in the foreground.

Guys used the skid steer to clear the snow off the pad.

Guys digging the 5' deep 14" wide holes in a race against the fading light. Two hours after this picture was taken (from the kitchen because it was 7 degrees outside) we were feeding the horses and then went out to look at the holes in the dark because we are dorks. Suddenly we heard Dory screeching. She had fallen in a hole! Completely unharmed physically, but I've never seen such a traumatized face. Following that experience, she got a bath to get off all the mud that was in the bottom of the hole. To hear Dory tell it, we are dog-trap-setting, innocent puppy-bathing beasties.
Day 2 and 3 earthwork

Dory tests canter on the site of the new indoor.

Base for building all done. This is the sub-base. After the building goes up, we will put in the base and the footing.
Day 1 earthwork

They got a lot done for one day's work. More tomorrow. :-)

Running out of daylight and Tim the bulldozer star is hustling to flatten the piles.

Eddie supervising.

Taken in same spot as first picture.

Hard to see, but site of grass dressage arena. More on that in a few days.

Dump trucks in the pasture. Happens every day. Horses were in the barn, surprisingly unimpressed.

Dirt from the second pasture high spot. May become a small bank for schooling

Dumping, dumping, dumping...

Scraped off most of the present footing and new dirt coming in

Dirt coming from the future grass dressage arena

Dirt going on top of present arena to level it.

Excavator arrives Saturday morning November 6

Pasture, soon to become outdoor grass 20 x 60 m dressage arena

Outdoor arena, soon to become indoor riding arena
